A tale of three frogs...

So a few of you may know the story or at least know bits and pieces... I have never thought I was afraid of or hated frogs...until now. haha
So it was around the second week we were home with Lily. I was feeling better and JF was back at work (in his office here in our house). It was about 6 am and still pretty dark in our house. I was sitting on the couch in the great room with Lily and noticed Gracie pouncing around in our bedroom. When she ran in to me, I noticed a dark pile of something on the carpet in our bedroom. I quickly got up and a little upset because my first thought was Gracie was acting out because of Lily and just pooped on the floor! When I flipped on the light, a dark green/brown tree frog jumped about 3 feet in the air onto her dog bed. I of course screamed and ran back into the great room. JF came in and caught the frog in a tupperware and put it outside. The story is over, right? Oh no. I got over it pretty quickly. I just assumed it somehow got in because people had been in and out since we had been home from the hospital and after all, it is frog mating season in South Florida.

About two more weeks later JF and I were both up with Lily. It was about 3 am. JF was feeding Lily and I had just finished pumping. I mentioned how cold it was and went into the hallway to turn the temperature up a bit. When I passed by the half bath, I noticed a small dark something on the toilet seat. I went into the bathroom asking out loud, "Is that poop on the toilet seat?!". I flipped on the light and went for a closer look. As I got close, I screamed because inside the rim of the toilet was a large gray tree frog. I slammed the door and ran into the great room. JF says "why didn't you close the toilet seat down? What if he gets under the door?". I scream back "it is too damn big to fit under the door!". JF hands me Lily and goes in with a tuppeware to extract frog #2. He closed the door behind him when he went in and I hear him yell out after 5 minutes or so, "the frog is not in here". I reply "the hell it isnt! You are not coming out until you find that frog!" haha. So apparently JF didn't realize it was far under the lid because once he finally grabbed the toilet brush and was feeling around the toilet seat, the frog jumped out of the toilet at him and stuck to the wall behind him. I knew he had found the frog because he yelled out "shit!". Once again, he takes it outside and we go to bed. Although this time I was a bit more distraught and we both started googling stuff. Some posts said frogs can't get into a home unless through a door. Other posts talked about frogs coming through the toilet. Through the toilet!?! That isn't possible. After a sleepless night and a few weeks of checking the toilet, I forgot about it. (Except for us telling some friends and our parents of the funny shenanigans).
This takes us to last night... It was about 1 am and while JF and Lily were asleep, I needed to get up to pump. I went into our master bathroom and used the bathroom. We have a small light on above the tub (for when we get up with Lily) so I didn't turn the light on in the toilet room. As I reached back to flush the toilet I see beady eyes on top of the toilet behind the flipped up toilet seat lid. I jump back and the large gray tree frog jumps up on the art work hanging behind the toilet and climbs up the wall. I run into the bedroom and yell at JF "there is another $@&! frog in the house!". He of course gets back up, gets a tupperware and traps yet another one. After he takes it outside I am waiting on the couch for him to have a serious discussion. This is the last straw, we clearly have to sell the house. Haha. But really, those words came out of my mouth...more than once! I finally convince him that it is not a coincidence and that no way three frogs have come into the house through an open door and these giant things (legs and all were the size of my hand) were walking around the house being unnoticed. After several phone calls this morning to my mom, my dad, he bug guy and several others who were forced to hear my whining, we were fairly certain they were coming in through the toilet. Apparently there is a vent pipe that is connected to every toilet that allows gas and air to pass and goes up to your roof. For whatever reason, these pipes are usually not covered with some sort of mesh to prevent this very thing from happening. We have a tiled roof and JF is not very comfortable with climbing around up there. I finally called a handyman (the guy who put in our door, who might i mention is a Saint and anyone in Jupiter should use him! haha) and said, "Paul you are going to think I am nuts, but large frogs are coming into our house through the toilets". After a pause he laughs and says, "I don't think you are crazy at all. I actually just put vent covers over pipes for another client of mine who had the very same problem". After I whined some more to him and told him that I was staying in a hotel tonight if the problem wasn't resolved, he told me he would come over this afternoon to fix it.
Around 3 pm today Paul came over, put a mesh cover over the vent pipe and checked the other pipes up there that go to our fans to make sure the covers were in tact. After he came inside and saw Lily, we gave him a check for $50. $50!?! I would have paid him $1000 haha. So for any of you homeowners out there...we are proof that amphibians CAN get through your vent pipes on your roof and get into your home. Although I will totally continue to check the toilets for the next few weeks until I forget about, I should be able to sleep much more sound tonight!
Here is a video of Lily this morning during our conversation about the frog while JF was in Miami for work :)

Lily is 6 weeks, Mommy is happy

Lily is 6 weeks today and I am surprisingly not crying! Thank goodness my hormones have leveled out a bit. While the stories were funny to tell people, I was quite over crying at the drop of a hat. I had my 6 week appointment with my doctor and everything seems to be going well. I still have to get a sugar test again because of the gestational diabetes to make sure they went away, that should be sooo fun! haha.
Lily is doing great. Most night she is sleeping for 6+ hours at once followed by another shorter sleep after a bottle and diaper change. We took the co-sleeper we had in the bed with us (it velcros to the bed and sits in the middle of JF and I). She is back in her pack n play in our bedroom. Although the last two nights were a little tiresome from getting up to soothe her quickly when she woke up, we sleep better having our bed back. Once she starts sleeping longer we will put her in her crib. For now it is nice to not have to walk so far just to stick a pacifier back in her mouth and "shhh" her for a minute. She is up a little longer in between sleeps now also. We spend more time playing on her mat or talking to each other after she eats, before another nap. She laughs and smiles a lot. She has also been paying more attention to toys and focusing on stuff and "talking". It seems the "Wonder Weeks" app Branden told me to download was so right. It tells you different "leaps" (stages) your baby is going through based on their birth date and explains what to expect as far as the way she might act during her growth spurt. She isn't as cranky anymore (thank God) and although still wants to cuddle a lot, not quite as clingy during the day. She is sleeping in her swing right now as I type :)
I had several appointments this week and my mom (Nanna) got to come over and spend lots of time with her. They both loved the time together and it was a huge help to me!
I am getting so excited for Mother's day! Not only do we get to see all of our Florida local family (we really don't get out much anymore haha), we also get to see JF's parents and brother, Dan! We are all so excited to see them and I know they cannot wait to meet their new granddaughter! Julie is in the middle of finals, so she will come down during the summer.
I posted a few pics below of my Sugar Butt the past week or so. Have a great week!

Lily is One month, 3 days

It is crazy to think that Lily is already a month old! Every where I go people tell me how little and precious she is which is nuts to me because she seems to be growing so much! We aren't sure how big she is now (we go to her 2 month appt in May), but her newborn clothes are mostly all too small. While they aren't too tight, they are all too short. Is my child longer than normal? Doesn't she know who her parents are, we aren't tall! haha. I am shopping around a bit some different brands because while the newborn is too small, the 0-3 months swallows her!
So most of you remember we had a turtle dove Mama bird who made one of my herb pots her new nest. She had two babies right before Lily was born and shortly after we came  back from the hospital, we noticed she had nestled back in our flower pot to have more babies! She just recently vacated for the second time, who knows if our porch has become her permanent home for her baby raising!

Lily had a big day on her one month birthday. We took her to The Nook for breakfast and then to church. As you can see from the picture below, Daddy dressed her. After he showed off his skills at her having a matching bow, I told him how cute she was but how sparkly skull and bones might not be appropriate or church haha. Nonetheless, she looked adorable in her cute shirt from Aunt Jamie. As for church, it didn't go as well as expected. Typically when we take her out, she sleeps the entire time in her car seat. Because I had a dress on, we brought her a bottle with water and a "to go" formula pack to mix with it. About 15 minutes into mass, she started to fuss. I quickly mixed the bottle as she started to get louder. I must confess, I got powder all over! Right as we shoved it in her mouth and she started to quiet down, we realized it was leaking all over her! I forgot to put the stem in the bottle that prevents too much air in her tummy and it apparently leaks everywhere if you forget it! She has really gotten louder and has quite a high pitched scream when she doesn't get her way, so when JF removed the bottle from her mouth she was quite vocal about it. We were luckily in the "quiet room" but seemed to be getting dirty looks even in there haha. We grabbed all the stuff and bolted out to the car! I guess next week I will try to be more prepared! I added a cute picture of her "cool like my aunt" shirt, also courtesy of Jamie :)
Threw this one in just because :)

A few more things happening the last week or so, Lily has started to really start grabbing at stuff. She has pinched JF a few times and ripped a few hairs out of my head haha. She has also started to hold her bottle, so cute! When we feed her she grabs at our fingers too. She has started to smile a lot and even laugh a few times. JF played peek-a-boo with her one of the first times she giggled. She will also giggle a little when he tickles her under he chin or knees. It is crazy how much she has changed already! Please stop growing, Lily!!
One little adventure she had was shopping at the outlets last weekend with JF, myself, and Jamie. We went to eat at Bay Bay's Chicken and Waffles first, went to the outlets and then Target. We were gone for about 4 hours! It is quite clear she already takes after her mommy and Aunt Jamie and loves shopping! :)
Lily also had an evening out with the Schwarz family. We all went to the Tequesta food trucks last Friday. Kyla (almost 2) and Caroline (2 weeks older than Lily) were there to help hopefully entertain Lily. Unfortunately for them, Lily slept the entire time...even during the loud reggae music :)

So I mentioned how she has developed this high pitched scream, right? We joke around calling her cranky. She will be sound asleep one minute and scream bloody murder the next when she doesn't instantly get what she wants, whether it is a diaper change, milk or she has gas. She really is loud now...like makes you flinch when it is 3 am and she is screaming right in your ear type of loud ;)
There has also been several occasions during the day that she is high maintenance. Even though most of the time she will lay by herself and entertain herself while looking around or playing on her mat, there are other times she will not let me put her down. I recently started using her baby carrier more often. It is pretty awesome because she falls asleep almost immediately and it allows me to do dishes, laundry, or bake as you see from this picture that JF took lol.

I added two videos that are pretty cute. The first is Lily half asleep. It shows how much she is grunting lately. In this video, her grunting wakes her up! The second video is an example of her being fussy and wanting me to hold her constantly. My routine everyday is I put her in the swing in the bathroom with me while I shower and get dressed. She usually sleeps right through it because she loves the heat of the bathroom and the sound of the shower. On this day she woke up early and was rather cranky. While I tried to blow dry my hair quickly, I realized how much she loved the sound of the blow dryer. As you can see from the video, she instantly fell asleep!
I hope everyone has a great week!! :)
